Works by French-American sculptor Louise Bourgeois dangle from the ceiling of Cheim & Read for this exhibition, which is accompanied by several drawings of other pendulous forms. Gallery-goers are invited to wend their way through flaccid limbs and hanging heads to experience what Bourgeois describes as an expression of the psyche:
Horizontality is a desire to give up, to sleep. Verticality is an attempt to escape. Hanging and floating are states of ambivalence.
