Give Me Love

The newer works – paintings from the My Eternal Soul series and polka-dotted pumpkin sculptures – aren’t new to Chelsea if you saw them last year. And the older The Obliteration Room from 2002 is new; at least it’s new to the U.S., since this marks its first appearance on these shores.

The Obliteration Room transforms over time as every surface of this typical domestic setting is gradually covered in dot stickers until individual forms blend together into blurred fields. It speaks to Kusama’s attraction to dots and her other works like her infinity rooms and, starting in the 60’s, the happenings she called Self-Obliteration in which she would cover her body with dots.
