'Kesh Angels

Moroccan-born, UK-based artist Hassan Hajjaj's 'Kesh Angels (that's 'Kesh as in Marrakesh) looks at Moroccan street culture through photographs, objects, installation, and video.Hajjaj's subjects revolve around the biker (scooter?) culture of young Moroccan women. He uses Moroccan vernacular styles – patterns, colors, African studio photography, dress, Arabic-adorned soda cans – applied to decidedly commercial (i.e. Western) aesthetics and upbeat, confident portraits of these young women to challenge notions of Arab culture and the relationship between East and West.exhibit page
