The Times

The FLAG Art Foundation presents The Times from June 1 – August 11, 2017, on its 9th floor gallery. The exhibition uses The New York Times as its point of departure and features over 80 artists, artist duos, and collectives who use the “paper of record” to address and reframe issues that impact our everyday lives.

The exhibition features some of our favorite people aka PLAYLAB, INC., who are debuting a new performance that bring the physical delivery of a newspaper indoors and puts it on display.

Stationary Paperboy will be on display for one hour every Thursday at The FLAG Art Foundation starting June 8, and running through August 11. Other artists in the exhibition include Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Group Material, Ellsworth Kelly, On Kawara, Richard Prince, and Yes Men.

"As the pace of news continues to increasingly accelerate, the role of the analog, printed newspaper has become an evergreen topic of discussion. The jobs of the people who transport and deliver the news are becoming more and more obsolete, as people receive their news in more immediate ways. Within this shrinking market lies the “paperboy.” Stationary Paperboy is a performance that brings the physical delivery of a newspaper indoors, and puts it on display. Every Thursday, the paperboy will go on their route, throwing copies of that day’s New York Times to visitors as they enter the 9th floor gallery of The FLAG Art Foundation.

The piece is part of the exhibition titled “The Times,” a show using The New York Times as its point of departure and features over 80 artists, artist duos, and collectives using the “paper of record” to address and reframe issues that impact our everyday lives."
